Roberts, Kenneth. Arundel: A Facsimile of the 1930 First Edition, First State Book (1 of 200 copies). Kennebunk, ME: Kenneth Roberts Centennial Commission, 1985. Facsimile Edition. Signed by Committee Members.

Binding: Hardcover. Illustrator: Good, Stafford. Book Condition: Fine Condition. Dust Jacket Condition: Fine. Size: Octavo (8vo; up to 9 3/4" / 20-25 cm tall). 658 pages: ill.; 24 cm. Item Type: Book.

Limited Edition, #135/1000. This is one of the 200 copies that includes the 38 p. bibliography of Roberts' works compiled by Philip C. Monahon, "one of the country's leading Roberts collectors and scholars," making it a valuable reference for the serious Roberts collector. Signed by Commission officers on limitation page.

Facsimile of the first edition with the famously rare first state dust jacket, reproduced in a larger format than the 20 cm original. (Roberts felt Good's heroic image didn't fit his description of Arnold's men and lobbied to have the image replaced with a painting by N.C. Wyeth, which was done around the third printing.)

Fine HB in Fine DJ, protected by mylar cover. In Fine original slipcover. Dark blue cloth w/bright gold decoration & title on cover; bright gold title on spine. (The remaining 800 copies of the limited edition has only 618 p. and the title and decoration are in silver, rather than gold.) Binding is tight; corners sharp with no shelf wear ("as new").

Unclipped DJ maintains the vivid colors of Good's image. The reds tend to be sun-faded on the spine; on this copy the spine is only slightly faded. The DJ has a little wear at the top front and back corners and at the top of the folds of the spine. There are a couple of small (1/4") closed tears at the head of the spine. Now in mylar cover.

The slipcover is solid with only two small defects: There is a bump (affecting about 1/2") on one side of the edge next to the opening and a little of the paper at the top corner was pulled away, but has been re-glued with archival glue to prevent it from tearing off.

Text block is tight, bright and unmarked, in "as new" condition.
