Binding: Hardcover (Original Cloth). Book Condition: Very Good- Condition. Size: 8"-9" - Octavo (8vo). 406 pages. Item Type: Book.
An important early study of the Levellers. It was awarded the Herbert Baxter Adams Prize in European History for 1915. A note on the copyright page says, "A Limited Edition of this Essay has been Printed and the Type Distributed," which would appear to refer to a special printing prior to this one.
Hardbound in blue cloth over boards with the title in dulled gilt on the spine. There is a horizontal line of lighter blue across the spine below the author's name. The edges are worn and the bottom corner of the front cover has worn through to the boards. The front cover is a bit loose; the rear cover is tight.
The text block is tanned from edge, but there are no marks. The first 22 pages are loosened, but still holding. There is an old adhesive tape repair down the gutter between the Introduction and Chapter I and the binding is broken between pages 22 and 23. The top page edges are gray from exposure. The side and bottom page edges are browned but clean. No foxing in this copy.
The name "T. C. Pease" is written in pencil on the inside front cover, but it is not in the hand of the author.
