An English version, freely translated from the German by Elizabeth Shub with woodcuts by Nonny Hogrogian. Warmly inscribed by the artist with a drawing of a pear (which is central to the story): "For [name], | with pleasure and a [pear], | [signature]."

Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. Hardcover bound in illustrated cloth over boards matching the dust jacket. Corners are sharp with no wear. Minimal wear to the head and foot of the spine. No foxing in this copy.

The unclipped ($4.95) dust jacket has a slight bit of wear at the edges, more so at the head and foot of the spine. There is a small closed tear at the foot of the front panel that has been repaired with archival paper tape. There is a small strip of adhesive tape on the back of the jacket, which was used to hold a clear sleeve in place. The jacket is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve (with no tape!). A previous bookseller and penciled in a stock number and price at the top of the half-title page. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
