An early printing in the 2nd state dust jacket. The first state rear panel has pictures of 14 "Other Books by Dr. Suess." In this second state, there are two boxes of Dr. Seuss books. The top box has seventeen large-format books, listed in two columns. The left column begins with And to Think that I saw it on Mulberry Street and ends with Scrambled Eggs Super; right column begins with Horton Hears a Who and ends with Dr. Seuss's Sleep book (printed in 1962). The lower box lists five small-format Beginner Books, beginning with Hop on Pop (printed in 1963) and ending with The Cat In The Hat Comes Back. That suggests a printing of around 1963 for this book.

Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. Hardcover bound in colored paper over boards. Corners are sharp with slight wear at the tips. Minimal wear at head and foot of the spine.

Unclipped (295/295) dust jacket with some chipping in the top 1/4 inch of the spine. Shallow chips at the tops and bottoms of the folds. The lime green color of the front panel shows some rubbing. The dust jacket is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
