True First Edition in First State with all of the points from the BAL 466 listing: 385 pages followed by a blank verso and 5 pages of advertisements; printed on laid paper; top edges gilt; frontispiece and 8 beautiful photogravure [sic] plates (all accounted for); the listing of the plates is missing the folio (8) for the second plate and the word "facing" is not present before the page number of each plate.

Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. No foxing in this copy. Deckled edges (rough cut), browned. Top edge gilt - bright, rich condition.

Very Good hardcover bound in red cloth over boards with green and white hemp decoration on the front cover and spine. Bottom corners are slightly turned; top corners have wear at the tips. The front hinge is fragile but holding with 1/2" tears at the top and bottom. It has been reglued to stabilize the hinge. There is a small black mark at the bottom center of the front cover.
