Edmonds, I. G. Ooka: More tales of Solomon in Kimono. Pacific Stars and Stripes, [Tokyo, Japan], 1957. First Edition.

Binding: Hardcover. Illustrator: Sanae Yamazaki. Book Condition: Very Good+ Condition. Dust Jacket Condition: Good+. Size: Between 11"-13" - Quatro (4to). 104 pages. Item Type: Book.

A collection of 20 "Americanized" adaptations of stories of judgments issued by the feudal Japanese judge Ooka, Tadasuke Echizen no Kami. As the title suggests, this is a second book following the publication of "Solomon in Kimono" the previous year.

From the front flap: "When Ooka first became a judge in the days of Old Japan, he was ordered to punish wickedness and reward virtue. No man since Solomon did it better or went to such odd extremes to get around the letter of the law in order to uphold its spirit!" Includes an epilogue about the real Ooka and a glossary of Japanese terms.

Edmonds was a writer who served in the U.S. Air Force and wrote for Pacific Stars and Stripes. The artist was a Japanese artist who married an American serviceman following the war.

Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. Half-bound in green cloth and handmade Japanese paper with the title in black on the spine. Corners worn but not turned with wear at the tips and on the bottom page edges. Minimal wear at head and foot of the spine. The unclipped ($2.00) dust jacket has significant wear with chips at the head and foot of the folds and spine and tears along the edges with some loss. There are four chips about 1/4" deep along the top edge of the front panel and four larger chips along the top edge of the rear panel. The largest, which is at the head next to the spine, is 3/4" deep and 1 1/2" wide. Some of the larger tears have been repaired with archival paper tape to stabilize the dust jacket, which is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve.
