Charles Newton Hunter. Galahad (2nd printing). San Antonio, TX: The Naylor Company,1963.

Binding: Hardcover (Original Cloth). Book Condition: Near Fine Condition. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good+. Size: 8"-9" - Octavo (8vo). 233 pages. Item Type: Book.

Collectible copy of Col. Hunter's "critique of the command and leadership exercised in the China-Burma-India Theater of operations during one year, from the fall of 1943 to the fall of 1944," when the Galahad Force (Merrill's Marauders) invaded North Burma (p. vii).

Hunter succeeded Gen. Frank D. Merrill in command of the 5307th Composite Unit (provisional) and puts the blame for almost 2,000 casualties on "the lack of training for jungle warfare" and "mix-ups in the High Command" (from the flaps).

20 pages of black and white photos on coated stock just before the beginning of the text and three full-page maps of the mission and battles at Inkangatwang and Myitkyina.

Hardcover bound in gray cloth over boards with the title and design from the dust jacket printed in black on the front cover and the title, decorated with dog tags, in black on the spine. Corners are sharp; minimal shelf wear to the head and foot of the spine. The front and rear end papers have a map of the units operation "From the Hykawng Valley to Myitkyina" from 24 February to 27 May 1944.

The price-clipped dust jacket shows a little wear along the edges and has darkened a bit from where it was in contact with the cloth of the binding. It is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve.

Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. No foxing in this copy. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
