Carpenter, M. Scott; L. Gordon Cooper, Jr.; John H. Glenn, Jr.; Virgil I. Grissom; Walter M. Schirra, Jr.; Alan B. Shepard, Jr.; Donald K. Slayton. We Seven First Edition. Simon & Schuster, New York, 1962.

Binding: Hardcover (Original Cloth). Book Condition: Fine Condition. Dust Jacket Condition: Very Good. Size: 9" -11" - Small Quarto (Sm. 4to). 352 pages.

A collectible copy of the first printing of this account of Project Mercury written, as the dust jacket notes, "by The Astronauts themselves" and illustrated with many photos ranging from the astronauts with their families to official NASA releases of their training and missions. A previous owner laid in two newspaper clippings about the Mercury astronauts in their later careers with NASA.

From the Introduction: "As the reader will soon discover, [this book provides] a personal narrative, full of suspense and adventure, reminiscences and beliefs, facts and opinions, good days and bad days, and patiently detailed descriptions of a number of complex technical matters which the Astronauts themselves--as the men who know the subject best--are best equipped to explain to others" (p. 5).

Text block is tight, bright and unmarked. Hardbound in black cloth over boards with the title in white on the front cover and spine. Corners are sharp. Little to no wear to the tips and the head and foot of the spine.

The unclipped ($6.50) dust jacket has a heavy lamination that did not go completely to the edges. As a result, there is a dull edge all the way around that is worn, with some surface loss and shallow chipping, particularly along the top edge and head and foot of the spine. There is a 3/8" closed tear at the foot of the spine under the publisher's name and the top tip is missing from the rear flap. The jacket is now protected in a clear archival Brodart sleeve. All edges clean, neat and free of foxing.
